The airport is one of those places that’s constantly bombarding your ears and tearing at your attention.  At this moment, two adjacent individuals are sitting next to me, and speaking loudly into their cell phones.  completely engrossed in their conversations – without caring whether it’s boring others.  Every 5 minutes, a loud booming voice comes over the intercom to remind you one of the following:

  • Keep an eye on your luggage
  • Flight #123 will board in 10 minutes
  • Keep an eye on your childres
  • Flight #123 will board in 5 minutes
  • Ladies and gentlemen… (followed by silence as if he forgot what he was saying or he’s trying to build up some movie-style suspense
  • Flight # 123 is now boarding
  • Smoking is permitted in designated areas only, please don’t smoke in other areas.
  • K9 teams are working (what the heck does that mean??)
  • We are now boarding zone 55
  • Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah

No wonder traveling is such a stressful activity, we’re being killed at the airport.  I’m pretty stressed right now, trying to deal with all this noise and distractions.
How can we create a better airport waiting area – where privacy is encouraged and everybody gets their personal space?

Maybe I should just get myself a pair of noise-canceling headphones.
